Hey everyone,
Well, lots of updating to do. I applied at FIU and they accepted me immediately. I got a full scholarship, and I already started class last Wednesday. I had to start Summer B so then I can get the scholarships they offered me. I got a scholarship for being Valedictorian of my class, and I got the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship also, which means that I got a full ride to FIU. I was so happy. I wanted to go to UM of course but they didn't offer me many scholarships and I would've had to end up paying for some classes which are very expensive. But my classes in FIU are not hard at all. I'm taking Freshman First Year Experience which is a requirement, Theater Appreciation, and Introduction to Psychology. The professors are also very nice and easy. This Tuesday I have my first quiz on the Theater class. I took plenty of notes so I will study those notes and hopefully do good in the test. Well, I must go now. I'll keep you posted...

Hey everyone,
I went to the University of Miami today to apply, and it turns out that I'm very late to apply for this year. I would have to start in August but I will lose all the scholarships that they offer, because scholarships are offered to students who apply earlier, and then if I'm applying late then I would get the leftover scholarship money, which is not much or maybe none at all. Well, anyways, I decided to go to Florida International University after that, to ask because the lady from UM told me that I can do my pre-med in FIU and then transfer to UM for medical school. So I went to FIU to ask and they are still taking applications, I'm a little late but I can still get in. Well, I went to the admissions office and I spoke to this really nice girl that really wants to help me out. Guess what? She said that they are still awarding Valedictorian and Salutatorian scholarships. And the Valedictorian scholarship is $5,000 per year. But the good news is not just that, FIU is about $3,200 per year, which means I will have a full scholarship and have money left over, plus if I get the Florida Bright Future Scholarship, I will also have that money that I can save for when I need to go to medical school. I was happy about that. Well, now the girl told me that I need to send her my ACT scores, a letter from my school saying I'm Valedictorian, and my transcripts from my school. And I already applied online. So this week approximately the 21-23 of June I will be getting my ACT scores online and I will take them to her. She told me if I get a 22 or higher then I can start in the Fall, which is what I want to do. So now all I got to do is wait for my results and then go see the girl again so I can get enrolled in the school. I'm really happy about that. I really wanted to go to UM but it's ok if I can't go for now. I will still graduate from there from Medical School. I will do that same thing my mom did, she got her Bachelors in FIU and then her Masters in UM. Well, that's all for now. TTFN Ta Ta For Now!

Hello everyone, well, I can finally update again. On June 11th was my high school graduation. I can't believe I already graduated. I was Valedictorian so I had to write a speech. I was really nervous when I had to go up on the podium and read my speech. I got many awards including the Presidential Award which is signed by President George W. Bush. I was so excited I graduated. Now I have to go register at the University and see when I can start. Well, that's all for now.

Hey everyone sorry I haven't updated in a while. The thing is that right now I'm in finals for school, and I bare;y have the time to sit by the computer to update since I have to study and also go to dialysis. Well, prom was nice. I have pictures which hopefully I can try to post them up today. There weren't that many people considering there are only 12 seniors in my class since I go to a private school. But it was ok. Well, this friday I officially finish high school. I can't believe it. I graduate June 11th. I'm valedictorian which makes me very proud considering all that I've had to go through and also being able to keep a 4.5 GPA average. I feel strong and proud as if I can achieve anything I set my mind to. Well in terms of University, I want to go to the University of Miami to study medicine. I want to help children so I want to become a pediatrician, and maybe later on specialize in a field maybe even nephrology (who knows!) Everything is going good with me, just have to focus on finals now and then I'm free for a while.

Hello,
Well, today I had dialysis and I didn't get a headache while I was on the machine. I got a slight headache afterwards but it went away fast because I drank excedrin. I think the problem was that I was removing to much fluid and I was too dry. Now I finally got my dry weight so I won't remove too much fluid. The treatment went well. Alright well, on Saturday I have my senior prom. I'm going to prom with one of the guys from dialysis. He's 18, I asked him if he could go with me and he said yes. He already went to try on his tuxedo. Well, that's all for today.

Hello,
Well, today is Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day to all moms out there. I didn't do anything this weekend. I thought I was going to go out with my mom today but she spent the day cleaning the house and fixing my brother's room. We are doing a total make-over to his room. We painted the wall half light blue and half dark blue, and the borders on the wall are of sail boats. It looks super cute. Finally, his room doesn't look like a little boys room. He's already 11 years old and he wanted his room to look more like an older boys room. Next we're going to do my room. We're also going to put the wood floor just like in my brother's room. We're not having the rug anymore because it gets too dirty. Well, that's all for today.

For some reason, lately during dialysis I've been getting a really big headache and it lasts me after I finish treatment. I don't know why. This usually never happens to me, I usually just get a headache sometimes but after dialysis not during the treatment. My nurse is telling me to try not to gain a lot of fluid to see if they can establish my dry weight again. Even though I think I'm on my dry weight, but today when I finished my blood pressure was high. It was 135/98, I usually have a good blood pressure when I finish unless I still have fluid then it stays a little high. But I feel like I'm dry. Well, I don't know I guess we have to see what is causing that bad headache, and I hope it doesn't happen all the time during dialysis, because going to dialysis is bad enough to have to get a headache also.

Hello,
Well, right now I'm sitting here in the Info Alley from the hospital waiting for a dialysis machine to become available. I have to wait an hour and 49 mins. So I will be here a while. I should have called before I came. Now I'm stuck here having to wait until a machine is empty and then wait 3 hrs for my treatment. It will be a long/boring day. Today I didn't go to school because I wasn't feeling too good in the morning. This weekend was Grad Nite and I ate stuff I wasn't supposed to eat and I drank more than I should. So this morning I woke up and my face was swollen. I hate it when I get swollen because it bothers. I feel puffy and it's uncomfortable. I'm running out of things to say. I'm going to go read a book and wait till I can get connected. Laterz!

OMG! Grad Nite was so much fun! The only bad thing was that we got to Pleasure Island late so then we were there for only 30 mins. But we went inside the clubs and danced a little. They were packed so we were hardly able to move. Then we got to Magic Kingdom early, so we had to wait a little while before we went inside the park. Ciara, Kevin Little, Yellowcard, and Ryan Cabrera were there. I was only able to see Yellowcard and Ryan Cabrera because when Ciara and Kevin Little were singing the place was packed and we weren't able to see anything. We rode some rides and then we walked, ate, and shopped. I bought this really cute Mickey Mouse that is dressed like a graduate, a shirt, a souvenier collectible spoon for my mom, and a big lollipop for my brother. I took my Grad Nite picture with a whole bunch of people. I should be receiving that picture in the mail within the next couple of week. I will post it when I receive it. Well, I really had fun in Grad Nite. Too bad it's over and I will never be able to go again. :( I loved it and had a great time, and the best part was that I was feeling great with my friends.

Well, today my grandma picked me up from school a little bit earlier to go to dialysis because at 8:00 p.m. they were going to celebrate my cousin's Valerie's birthday in a restaurant. We went to the restaurant and they were dancing salsa because they have classes there. It was funny seeing all those people dancing and some of them messing up. LOL. Well, so then we sang Happy Birthday and then my mom picked me up because in my other grandma's house they were doing a dinner because my aunt came from visiting Cuba.
Friday is Grad Nite, I'm so excited! I can't wait to go to Magic Kingdom again. I went last year because in my school since there are a little bit of Seniors they let the Juniors go too, so they can fill the bus. That's all that's on my mind today. TTFN!

Hello,
Yesterday when I got to school I received terrible news. One of my classmates was riding an ATV in the weekend and fell off and hit her head really bad. Now she's in Jackson in the Ryder Trauma Center with internal bleeding in her brain. I was in shock. I couldn't believe something like that had happened to her. She has been so nice to everyone and she's such a good person. I couldn't believe it. I will pray that she gets better. I wanted to go see her today, but one of my teachers advised me not to go because I guess the situation is not going so good. I really hope she gets better. My prayers are with her and her family.
Today, no dialysis! Aleluya! LOL. My day off. I get to stay home and go on the computer which is one of my favorite things to do. Alright well, that's all that's on my mind today.

Hey guys,
Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I've been busy with school and all that stuff since it's my Senior year and we've been planning for Prom and the rest of the stuff. Well, good news about dialysis, my URR clearance went up to 80. I'm so happy, because I have a cathetor and usually fistulas work better but my cathetor is working just as good as a fistula. Not much has happened other than I've been feeling good, and treatments have been good. I lost some weight like about 3 weeks ago because I got a bad cold, but finally I'm gaining it back. I wasn't eating a lot because I felt sick but now I'm back to normal. Well, I don't have much to say. I will try to update every day.
P.S. Anyone can add me to their friends list. I like talking to people that are on dialysis or that have received a kidney transplant.

Today I was able to go to dialysis early. They connected me at around 9:00 a.m. so I was finished at around 12:00 noon. My treatment went good. I sort of felt sick at the end like usual when I need around 30 minutes. I think they finally got me down to my dry weight because my blood pressure was normal. I kept leaving with fluids so my blood pressure was still high. I've been sick with a bad cold, I keep coughing and coughing. The nurses checked my lungs to see if I had any fluid but they said I sound clear. I hope this cold goes away but the thing is that I'm only allowed to drink Robitussin and that doesn't help at all. Now, the weekend is here so I must be good with fluids. That's all for now...

My name is Raquel and I'm 17 years old. When I was 9 years old, I was diagnosed with FSGS and then I went into ESRD. My kidneys completely stopped working and I had to go on dialysis. I started on peritoneal dialysis and was on it for about 2 1/2 years. I had to stop PD dialysis because it wasn't working right for me. Then, I started hemodialysis. Finally when I was 13 years old. I got a kidney transplant. My dad gave me his kidney. I felt great, but I still spilled protein which led me to lose the transplanted kidney. The kidney lasted me 2 1/2 years. After that, I started back on hemodialysis. Currently, I'm on the transplant waiting list awaiting another kidney.
